At Bump in Beyond, our Chiropractic care offers a range of benefits that can significantly improve one's overall health and well-being. One of the key advantages of chiropractic treatment is its natural, non-invasive approach to addressing various health issues. Chiropractors focus on the spine and nervous system, which play a central role in regulating the body's functions. Through manual adjustments and manipulations, chiropractors can alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance the body's ability to heal itself. Many patients have reported relief from chronic pain conditions, such as back and neck pain, headaches, and joint discomfort, without the need for surgery or medication. Additionally, chiropractic care can boost immune system function, reduce stress, and promote a sense of balance and vitality. This holistic approach to healthcare emphasizes the body's ability to heal and adapt, making it an attractive option for those seeking natural and drug-free solutions to their health challenges. We are happy to service all people in the Lakeway and surrounding areas, (such as Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Hudson Bend, and Steiner Ranch).

Primitive Reflexes

What are they?

Primitive reflexes are automatic, involuntary movements that occur in order to help the newborn pass through the birth canal and survive the first year of life. They are called “primitive” because they are an early brain function and are they are necessary to support the brain’s maturation and development. These reflexes help create patterns of neural networks and myelination of brain pathways in the first year of life. After the first year of life, each involuntary reflex response should integrate and transition from an involuntary response to a voluntary movement. If the primitive reflex remains active, it causes unwanted involuntary responses which overload the central nervous system. This causes the child to miss steps in the developmental ladder. These missed steps cause immature nervous system development, and impair the maturation of voluntary postural reflexes that contribute to higher development and learning. When a child has retained reflexes it can cause problems with children’s social, emotional, behavioral, sensory and motor skills.

How do we help?

Our initial exam will test for each primitive reflex in order to see if they are retained and if their nervous system is operating in an immature and altered state. Our initial exam will also look for any visual, sensory, or balance issues along with feeling for any misalignments of the spine. Once an initial exam is performed, a care plan will be created to integrate and remove the retained primitive reflex. The care plan will include a combination of office visits with at home exercises in order to integrate each reflex.

What caused the reflex to be retained?

It is not always clear why primitive reflexes are retained in some kids but integrated in others. Some causes of retained reflexes include stress, trauma or sickness during either utero, birth or the first year of life. These stressors include; infant illness, birth trauma, C-section (because the reflexes were never activated), stress or illness of the mother during pregnancy and failure of the baby to crawl.

Sign/Symptoms?

Retained primitive reflexes can keep a child from reaching their full potential. They can cause emotional, academic, sensory, behavioral and motor skills challenges. Some examples include:

  • Learning challenges such as ADD/ADHD and autism

  • Delayed speech development

  • Low muscle tone

  • Issues with balance and coordination

  • Problems with social skills and behavior

  • Visual and auditory processing issues

  • Allergies and illnesses

  • Poor bladder control

  • Trouble sitting still

  • Dysgraphia (poor handwriting)

The Webster Technique Information

Experience the gentle and non-invasive approach of the Webster technique, a specialized chiropractic adjustment tailored to address sacral misalignments. While it doesn't physically turn breech babies, this technique optimizes pelvic balance and uterus position, creating an environment for the baby to naturally assume a head-down position. Our office combines the Webster technique with Spinning Babies and Miles Circuit techniques, leveraging gravity to facilitate the baby's optimal positioning.

Balancing Pelvic Muscles and Ligaments:

Through a blend of chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work, the Webster technique harmonizes the muscles and ligaments around the pelvis. This balance sets the stage for an ideal environment, encouraging the baby to move into the head-down position. Research by the ICPA indicates that the Webster technique can reduce labor time by up to 5 hours, positioning the baby correctly before labor begins and maximizing space in the birth canal by addressing pelvis or sacrum misalignments.

Non-Invasive and Gentle:

Appreciate the non-invasive and gentle nature of the Webster technique, offering a natural approach without external interventions. This holistic method is embraced by many pregnant individuals as part of their comprehensive birth preparation.

  • The first visit is a longer 50 minute appointment. The first visit is longer because we want to get a detailed history, get accurate baseline tests and have enough time to perform treatment on the first visit. The treatment on the first visit will consist of chiropractic adjustments, rehab exercises, manual soft tissue therapy and cupping therapy.

  • Every follow up appointment is slightly different but they can last anywhere from 15-30 minutes. The visit will include chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue manual therapy and cupping therapy. If needed, rehab exercises or primitive reflexes integrative exercises will also be included in the appointment at no additional charge.

  • Our office has a prenatal specific chiropractic table that has a belly drop away section so our pregnant patients can comfortably lie face down during their appointments.

  • Yes, newborn adjustments are very different from adult adjustments. There are no “cracks or pops” in newborn adjustments and instead light pressures (the same pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato) are used to induce gentle movement into different areas of the baby’s spine. We also do gentle massage therapy techniques in order to help lengthen and relax hypertonic muscles.

  • Yes! The combination of the Webster Technique and Spinning Babies Techniques can help. The Webster Technique helps create the optimal amount of space for the baby to turn naturally. The Webster Technique focuses on aligning the pelvis, hips, and ribs to give the baby the most amount of space in the uterus. Spinning Babies Techniques are a series of several different positions that use gravity to help get baby to turn.
