What is Diastasis Recti?
Diastasis recti is a condition characterized by the separation of the abdominal muscles, specifically the rectus abdominis, which run vertically along the front of the abdomen. During pregnancy, the growing uterus exerts pressure on the abdominal muscles and connective tissue, causing them to stretch and sometimes separate. This separation can weaken the core muscles and lead to diastasis recti. While it is a common occurrence during pregnancy, not all women develop this condition, and its severity can vary.
Common signs and symptoms of diastasis recti include a visible gap or bulge in the midline of the abdomen, particularly noticeable when the person tries to sit up from a lying position. Individuals with diastasis recti may also experience back pain, poor posture, and core muscle weakness. Additionally, some women may notice difficulty in engaging their core muscles and may have trouble with activities that require abdominal strength, such as lifting heavy objects. Postpartum exercises and physical therapy can often help improve the condition and strengthen the abdominal muscles, but in severe cases, surgery may be necessary to repair the separation. Early detection and appropriate management are essential for optimal recovery and core strength restoration.
Programming
The severity of core separation in diastasis recti (“DR”) can vary, and addressing it often involves a structured program specifically tailored to each individual’s need and is discussed at the consult after a DR assessment and strength evaluation.. These sessions start with small, precise movements and gradually progress to larger and more challenging exercises as the program unfolds.
At Bump and Beyond, we are licensed NeuFit providers, and we leverage the Neubie Device to enhance neural muscular rehabilitation. The Neubie is purpose-built and widely recognized for its effectiveness in rehabilitation, consistently yielding excellent results across various aspects of neural muscular recovery. This advanced technology can be particularly beneficial for individuals with diastasis recti, as it helps to strengthen the core muscles, improve muscle coordination, and promote optimal healing, making it a valuable addition to our diastasis recti recovery program. We are happy to service all people in the Lakeway and surrounding areas, (such as Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Hudson Bend, and Steiner Ranch).
Pricing
Upon initial assessment, each participant undergoes a comprehensive evaluation encompassing Diastasis measurement, diaphragmatic breathing analysis, and assessment of core connection and stability. Following that analysis of the body's movement patterns, a tailored program is recommended to assist the individual in achieving their objectives and rectifying the Diastasis. Given the personalized nature of these programs, pricing structures are varied to optimize progress for every participant.
The primary determinants influencing the duration of the program are:
1. Diastasis width, typically measured in finger-width, signifying the gap between the rectus abdominis muscles.
2. Tension and resilience of the linea alba, the tendon residing within the ‘gap’.
The outcome of these measurements significantly impacts the program's duration. Greater resistance with a smaller gap necessitates a shorter duration, while a larger gap coupled with reduced resistance requires an extended period for optimal results. To ensure accessibility, our pricing tiers are designed to offer more significant discounts for longer programs aimed at closing the Diastasis and maintaining the closure.
Upon successful closure and completion of the program, a follow-up appointment is scheduled three months later to monitor progress and provide ongoing support.
Additionally, we offer a referral program wherein individuals referring others to the program receive two complimentary hours—either two one-hour sessions or four half-hour sessions—as a gesture of appreciation for their advocacy and support, and to continue to support the closure.
FAQs
-
This depends on the severity of Diastasis Recti and core separation. The program lasts 16 sessions for 8 weeks. This usually will result in at least one finger of closure.
-
Yes, The Neubie Machine helps to activate the core muscles all the way through the abdomen. This helps to heal the connected to these muscles and in a way ‘turns them on’ for you. The Neubie is what accelerates the healing process.

The program is a 50 minutes training session. We recommend bringing a water bottle, and wearing compression shorts or leggings. People enjoy wearing high waisted, but thats not required.
